Helping PAL grow into a truly national organization is a complicated process, and the office staff in Phoenix is already stretched thin trying to support facilitators and keep things running smoothly during the pandemic. Steering Clear of Misery

As the COVID pandemic stretches from weeks into months and probably longer the “Misery Index” is slowly rising for most of us. Boredom, the lack of direction and fun activities, isolation from friends and family, limited access to support networks (church, PAL groups, etc.), reduced work hours or unemployment areRead More

It can be hard to maintain a positive attitude at times. It can be a challenge when facing hardship and struggle to keep a smile on your face. Holiday Season Preparation!

I get many questions this time of year about navigating the holiday season with an addicted loved one. This is understandable, being that this season can bring all the family dynamics (positive and negative) front and center. Depending on the family’s past holidays together, parents often worry about repeated badRead More

Attending PAL meetings for myself – and for my son

I think perhaps the hardest thing for me to understand about my son’s addiction was how the sweet, curious, creative, thoughtful, loving, energetic little boy I spent so many afternoons with after school became such a totally different person. Just about every day during his preschool and early elementary schoolRead More

Let’s Talk About Gratitude

It’s November! Let’s talk about gratitude. There is no better medicine to lift our spirits than a quick account of our blessings. WORDS FROM OTHER PAL MEMBERS

WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING ABOUT PAL

We have found comfort in knowing we are not alone in this journey. We are learning to set healthy boundaries with our daughter. We now have taken on the role of cheerleaders rather than the defensive lineman on a football team; always blocking the consequences resulting from her choices.

I was told to get healthy, it would help my addict son.  Not knowing what healthy was, not even realizing I was sick (co-dependent), not knowing how! PAL has shown me through the love and support of other parents like myself I am worth it! And I haven’t arrived yet, but I am better, I am healthier, I am not alone.

I can’t thank the group leaders enough for their insight and knowledge. They have managed to bring me peace of mind by teaching me how to interact with my addicted loved one.  Since my behavior has changed, my loved one’s behavior has improved. I encourage anyone who is frustrated or ashamed to join PAL.
